Files stay on your device

Privacy policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This policy explains what information Matchcheck (matchcheck.online) handles and how. The short version: the files you compare never leave your device.

Your files

When you compare files, they are opened and processed by your own web browser. They are not uploaded to our server or any other server, and we cannot see them. When you close the page, they're gone.

Software libraries

To read some formats, your browser downloads open-source code libraries (such as pdf.js for PDFs and SheetJS for spreadsheets) from public content delivery networks: cdnjs (Cloudflare) and jsDelivr. Our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. These providers receive your IP address and browser details as part of delivering the files, as with any website. They don't receive your files.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time. We use this only to keep the site running and secure, and it is deleted on a regular schedule.

Cookies and storage

Matchcheck doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies. If you choose a light or dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage. When you drop files on the home page, they're held briefly in your browser's own storage so the comparison page can open them, then removed.

Analytics

We don't currently use analytics. If we add them, we'll choose a privacy-friendly service that doesn't use cookies or track you across sites, and we'll update this page.

Your rights

Because we don't collect personal information through the tools, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you have a question or concern about privacy, including under the Australian Privacy Act or the GDPR, email hello@matchcheck.online.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
