Compare CSV files

Find added, removed and changed rows and cells between two CSV files. Columns are matched by name, so a reordered export still lines up.

How to compare CSV files

  1. Add your CSV files

Drop two .csv or .tsv files, or paste the data. Commas, semicolons, tabs and pipes are detected automatically.

  2. Choose how rows match

Match rows by content, or pick a key column like ID, SKU or email so each record is compared with its partner.

  3. See row and cell changes

Changed cells are listed like Row 12 › Price, with the old and new values. New and missing rows and columns are listed too.

What Matchcheck does

Columns matched by name

If a column moves, its values are still compared with the same column in the other file.

Key column matching

Pick an ID column and rows are paired by it, even if one file was sorted differently.

Delimiter detection

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe separated files are all read correctly, including quoted values.

Export the changes

Download the differences as a CSV to open in Excel or Google Sheets.

Questions and answers

Does the order of rows matter?

Not if you match by a key column. When matching by content, rows that match are aligned and edited rows are paired by similarity, so a few inserted rows don't throw off the rest.

My file uses semicolons. Will it work?

Yes. Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters are detected from the first line.

Can I compare a CSV with an Excel file?

Yes. Excel files are converted using their first sheet, so you can compare a CSV export against the original spreadsheet.

Is there a row limit?

There's no fixed limit. Files up to 25 MB work, which is typically a few hundred thousand rows.
