Files stay on your device

Compare Excel files

Find the differences between two spreadsheets: new and missing rows, changed cells and added columns, without uploading your data.

How to compare Excel files

  1. Add two spreadsheets

Drop two .xlsx, .xls or .ods files. Matchcheck reads the first sheet of each workbook.

  2. Match rows your way

Compare by content, or choose a key column such as Invoice, SKU or Employee ID to pair each row with its partner.

  3. Review and export

Every changed cell is listed with its row and column name. Download the list as a CSV or a shareable report.

What Matchcheck does

No upload

Spreadsheets often hold salaries, prices or customer lists. They're compared on your device and never sent anywhere.

Handles reordered columns

Columns are matched by their header, so moving a column doesn't create false differences.

Key column matching

Pair rows by an ID column, even when the two sheets are sorted differently.

Mix formats

Compare an .xlsx against a .csv export, or an old .xls against a new .xlsx.

Questions and answers

Which sheet is compared?

The first sheet in each workbook. To compare a different sheet, move it to the front or save it as a CSV.

Are formulas compared?

Matchcheck compares the values the cells display, not the formulas behind them. Formatting, colours and cell comments aren't compared.

Does it work with Google Sheets?

Yes. Download each sheet as .xlsx or .csv (File › Download), then compare them here.

Is it safe for confidential spreadsheets?

Yes. The comparison runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded, so it's suitable for payroll, financial and customer data.
