Compare Word documents

Find the differences between two versions of a Word document, even when tracked changes were never turned on.

How to compare Word documents

  1. Add two documents

Drop two .docx files, or a Word document and a PDF.

  2. Matchcheck reads the text

Each document's text is read in your browser and split into paragraphs.

  3. See what was edited

Added, removed and changed paragraphs are listed, with the edited words highlighted.

What Matchcheck does

No tracked changes needed

Useful when someone edited a document without tracking changes, or sent back a clean copy.

Word against PDF

Check that the PDF someone signed matches your final Word draft.

Word-level highlights

See exactly which words were added, removed or replaced in each paragraph.

Stays on your device

Your documents are read and compared in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Questions and answers

Does it work with .doc files?

Not directly. Open the .doc file in Word or Google Docs and save it as .docx first.

Are formatting changes detected?

No. Bold, fonts, styles and layout aren't compared, only the text.

What about tracked changes and comments?

Comments aren't compared. If a file still contains tracked changes, accept or reject them first for the clearest result.

Can I use it with Google Docs?

Yes. Download each Google Doc as a Word document (File › Download › Microsoft Word), then compare them here.
